The Real Problem with Fox News

Wednesday 31st May 2006 - 9:52:32 AM

Fox News is biased propaganda, they lie and distort, blah blah. I think I finally realized what Fox News is really trying to do: they are trying to scare the bejebus out of right thinking, white, god-fearing, Christian Americans. Take today’s front page as an example. Taking up almost a third of the page is yet another blond, young white girl who was recently murdered. With a bikini top. It’s a crisis! Sounds like tabloid journalism to me:

Now, I’m not saying this isn’t completely tragic and horrible, but ask yourself: How many unattractive older brown males were killed today in the United States? On a day when there are many (many!) thousands dead in an earthquake in Indonesia, riots in Afghanistan and, well, probably literally 100 more important stories to cover. Let’s see what’s on CNN’s front page:

I scrolled down and looked at the whole page: no bikini slayer here.

Not that other papers aren’t bad, either. This morning, the Hearst-owned SF Chron featured a half page picture/headline combo accusing the latest Tour de France winner of doping (high testosterone) like it’s this horrible thing, but buried in the business section is this article reporting all the oil companies are once again making a killing. Um, I guess the only people affected by the oil crisis are the little people - those who actually buy the gas or those who live in the countries with the petroleum - let’s kill ‘em all, what right do they have to live anyway? Yeah, doping scandal - much more alarming!!!
